Vissla Cold Water Necessities: The Extremities Are Everything
A winter session is rarely cut short by a cold core. It's the hands, feet and head that send you in. Our booties, gloves and hoods use the same warm, thermal-lined limestone-based neoprene as our wetsuits, with watertight seams and a grip that holds on a cold wax job. Get these right and you'll stay out far longer, past where the lineup empties.
Finish the Kit
The extremities are where a hooded suit stops and the cold sneaks in. The right booties, gloves and hood close that gap and turn a short, miserable session into a proper one.
What You'll Find
- Surf Booties: Split-toe and round-toe options for grip and warmth, in thicknesses to suit your water.
- Surf Gloves: Keep the hands working through winter so you can still feel the rail.
- Hoods: Stop the flush of cold water at the neck, the biggest heat-loss point in winter.
Choosing Your Cold Water Gear
Thickness follows water temperature. Around UK winter lows, 5mm booties and gloves and a 3mm+ hood are the usual call, going thinner as spring warms. Fit is everything: too loose and water flushes, too tight and gloves cut circulation. Booties should sit snug without crushing the toes, and a hood should seal around the face. Match these to a hooded suit for a sealed winter setup, and use the Size Guide for the fit.
The Vissla Wetsuit Range
- Hooded Wetsuits — deep-winter armour.
- Full Suits — full-length warmth across the line.
- 7 Seas — the everyday all-rounder.
- High Seas — our most flexible performance suit.
Construction & Care
Our cold water gear uses the same neoprene and thermal lining as the suits, with sealed seams and durable panels that take a beating on rock and reef. Rinse it in fresh water and dry it out of direct sun, and it'll keep its warmth and grip for seasons. When a piece is worn out, the Stoke Exchange recycling programme keeps it out of landfill.
